These Homemade Nutter Butters are soft, chewy, and creamy peanut butter sandwich cookies that are even better than the classic store-bought version. A nostalgic treat with real ingredients you can make from scratch.

- 1 cup unsalted butter softened
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup brown sugar packed
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs large
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1½ teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter for filling, softened
- ½ cup creamy peanut butter for filling
- 1½ cups powdered sugar for filling

- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream together 1 cup butter, 1 cup peanut butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in eggs and vanilla extract, beating until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until fully incorporated.
- Scoop dough and form into small oval shapes. Use a fork to create ridges on top to mimic classic nutter butter shape.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, then remove and allow to cool completely.
- For the filling, beat together remaining ½ cup butter, ½ cup peanut butter, and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Spread filling onto one cookie and sandwich with another. Repeat until all cookies are filled.
Notes
Cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to 5 days or frozen for later enjoyment.
