- 12 ounces bowtie pasta (farfalle)
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend) Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 14.5 ounces diced tomatoes (with juice) 1 can.
- 6 ounces tomato paste 1 can.
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- to taste salt
- to taste black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Grated Parmesan cheese For serving (optional).
- Fresh basil For garnish (optional).
Begin by boiling water in a large pot. Once boiling, add the bowtie pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, approximately 8-10 minutes. Drain in a colander and set aside.
In the same pot, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3 minutes until it becomes soft.
Add the minced garlic and ground beef to the pan. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, breaking the beef apart with a wooden spoon until it is browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
Stir in the diced tomatoes (with juice), tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Add the cooked bowtie pasta into the skillet with the beef and sauce mixture. Toss everything together until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.
Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil if desired.
For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes to the meat while cooking.
You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
Feel free to add vegetables like bell peppers or spinach for added nutrition.
