  • 1 colander
  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 cutting board

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces bowtie pasta (farfalle)
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend) Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 14.5 ounces diced tomatoes (with juice) 1 can.
  • 6 ounces tomato paste 1 can.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Grated Parmesan cheese For serving (optional).
  • Fresh basil For garnish (optional).

Instructions

  • Begin by boiling water in a large pot. Once boiling, add the bowtie pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, approximately 8-10 minutes. Drain in a colander and set aside.
  • In the same pot, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3 minutes until it becomes soft.
  • Add the minced garlic and ground beef to the pan. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, breaking the beef apart with a wooden spoon until it is browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  • Stir in the diced tomatoes (with juice), tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Add the cooked bowtie pasta into the skillet with the beef and sauce mixture. Toss everything together until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil if desired.
