Ingredients
  

  • 3 medium yellow onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • to taste chopped fresh chives or parsley for garnish optional
  • as needed potato chips or fresh vegetable sticks for serving

Instructions
 

  • Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the finely chopped onions and sprinkle them with salt and sugar. Stir to combine.
  • Cook the onions for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become caramelized and golden brown. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese and sour cream. Mix until smooth.
  • Add the caramelized onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper to the bowl. Stir until everything is well combined.
  • Transfer the dip to a serving dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Before serving, garnish with chopped chives or parsley if desired. Serve with potato chips or fresh vegetable sticks.

Notes

For extra depth of flavor, you can add grated Parmesan cheese to the dip.
The dip can be made a day in advance; just store it in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
