Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 clean kitchen towel
  • 1 loaf pan (9x5 inches)
  • 1 oven

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast Ensure your yeast is fresh for the best results.
  • 1 ½ cups warm water About 110°F.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Optional.

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • Add the salt and olive oil (if using) to the yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing with a wooden spoon or spatula until a dough begins to form.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl. Cover it with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  • Once risen, punch down the dough to release the air. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  • Cover the loaf pan with the towel again and let the dough rise for another 30 minutes until it has risen above the top of the pan.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) during the last 10 minutes of rising.
  • Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Remove the loaf from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
