Equipment

  • 1 large pot
  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 9x13 inch baking dish
  • 1 aluminum foil
  • 1 cooking spoon
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 grater

Ingredients

  • 12 noodles lasagna
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped or 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large pot, cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Drain any excess fat and then add the marinara sauce to the skillet. Stir to combine and allow to simmer for 5 minutes.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • In your baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom. Place 4 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
  • Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the mozzarella cheese. Top with a layer of meat sauce.
  • Repeat the layering process: noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and meat sauce. Finish with a final layer of noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  • Let the lasagna cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

You can add vegetables such as spinach or mushrooms to the meat sauce for extra flavor and nutrition.
This lasagna can be prepared in advance and refrigerated before baking. Just increase the baking time by about 10-15 minutes if cooking from cold.
For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey for the beef and sausage.
