Ingredients
  

  • 16 ounces brioche or challah bread, cut into cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup maple syrup for serving
  • optional powdered sugar for serving
  • optional fresh berries for serving

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  • Grease the 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  • Place the cubed bread evenly in the baking dish.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are coated. Press down gently to help the bread absorb the liquid.
  • Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate overnight (or for at least 4 hours).
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and uncover. Bake for 45 minutes or until the top is golden and the center is set.
  • Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup and sprinkle with powdered sugar and fresh berries if desired.

Notes

For added flavor, you can mix in or top the casserole with nuts, chocolate chips, or dried fruits before baking.
