Equipment

  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 baking sheet (optional)
  • 1 oven mitts

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, seasoned with salt and pepper. Cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Add the pizza sauce, sliced pepperoni, and Italian seasoning. Stir well to combine and simmer the mixture for about 5 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). If you like your buns toasted, place them on a baking sheet and put them in the oven for about 5-7 minutes until they are crisp.
  • Once the meat mixture is heated through, reduce the heat to low and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella on top. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it melt for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove the skillet from heat. Spoon the pepperoni pizza filling onto each toasted hamburger bun.
  • Optionally, garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving. Enjoy your Pepperoni Pizza Sloppy Joes!
  • For a spicier version, consider adding crushed red pepper flakes or jalapeños to the meat mixture.
