Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 6 slices bread cubed, preferably day-old
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup chopped green onion optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
  • Add the cooked sausage to the egg mixture, stirring until evenly mixed.
  • In the greased 9x13-inch baking dish, layer the cubed bread evenly on the bottom.
  • Pour the sausage and egg mixture over the bread, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, followed by chopped green onions if using.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top.
  • Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using different types of cheese such as mozzarella or pepper jack.
You can prepare this casserole the night before; simply cover it and refrigerate overnight. Bake in the morning, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
