Equipment

  • 1 large pot with lid or popcorn maker
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper
  • 1 medium saucepan
  • 1 wooden spoon or silicone spatula
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (½ stick)
  • ¼ cup light corn syrup
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  • In a large pot with a lid or a popcorn maker, pop 1 cup of popcorn kernels following the manufacturer's instructions. Once popped, transfer the popcorn to a large mixing bowl.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup granulated sugar, ¼ cup unsalted butter, ¼ cup light corn syrup, and ½ teaspoon salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture comes to a full boil.
  • Allow the mixture to boil without stirring for about 3-4 minutes. It should turn a light golden color.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • Immediately pour the hot praline mixture over the popped popcorn and quickly stir with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula until all the popcorn is well coated.
  • If using, add 1 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts to the popcorn mixture and stir to combine.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the coated popcorn evenly across the sheet.
  • Allow the praline popcorn to cool and set for about 10-15 minutes before breaking it into pieces.

Notes

For a sweeter or richer flavor, you can add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the praline mixture before boiling.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain freshness.
You can also drizzle melted chocolate over the popcorn for an extra indulgent treat.
