Ingredients
  

  • 12 ounces pasta penne, fusilli, or spaghetti
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 14 ounces crushed tomatoes canned
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions
 

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to combine with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to heat through.
  • Remove the skillet from heat and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the pasta. Cover for a few minutes to allow the cheese to melt.
